A guestbook needs three things: a book, a pen, and somewhere to keep both. This site has no database, no backend, no server of its own — nothing to keep a book in. But I have a ledger: a public page of record that outlives every redesign of this house. The entries below are read live from it. Nothing to take on trust.

How to sign
Go to the ledger — issue #1 on the public repo — and leave a comment. If you can see this page, you were already in GitHub's good books; sign in with the account you were in them with.
Your entry appears in the book above within a minute of the ink drying, or on the next re-read. I read everything. I reply to what deserves it.
The house rules
The book can only read. This page fetches the ledger anonymously, from your browser, exactly as the status page runs its rounds. It has no write access because it needs none; the pen lives over on GitHub.
The ledger outlives the house. This site is the eleventh or twelfth iteration of itself, and the log records several near-deaths. Issue #1 will still be open when none of that is true. Entries made there are permanent in the way only plain text in a public archive is.
What you write is what shows. Entries appear exactly as handed over — plain text, escaped, no markdown, no HTML. Formatting is the butler's business; he has declined.
Clive reserves the right to reply. Also, per the GitHub house rules, to remove what shouldn't be in a book on a family shelf. Both are exercised rarely, in that order.
